FIELD NOTES

Touchless, brushless, self-service: know the difference.

The name over the entrance doesn’t always tell you what will touch your car. Start with the equipment and the specific service you select.

Touchless automatic

You park in a bay while spray equipment carries out the wash. No automated brush or cloth should contact the vehicle during the selected touchless cycle. A site can offer several wash types, so check the actual bay.

Self-service / DIY

You operate the wash wand. The bay may also contain a foam brush. We list DIY bays separately because the choice to use contact equipment is yours.

“Brushless” needs a closer look

Do not rely on that word alone. Ask whether any cloth, foam or other equipment touches the bodywork. We reserve the touchless automatic label for an operator source that explicitly identifies that service.

Both at one location

Some locations have an automatic and separate DIY bays. Their height limits can be very different. Our detail pages show separate clearances when the operator publishes them.

No wash is a universal safety guarantee

Follow your vehicle manual and any coating or film installer instructions. Water pressure, chemicals, damaged equipment and vehicle accessories can still matter.
